U.S. News & World Report

UD has been identified as one of America’s best in U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 Best Colleges rankings. More specifically, the university was recognized as:

  • #13 among 121 other regional universities in the West Region 
  • #2 among 31 other regional universities in Texas
  • a “Best Value School” in the West Region (one of 15 colleges and universities)
  • an “A+ School for B Students”
    • a distinction given to schools that look at students' applications holistically

Princeton Review

UD is one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company features the school in the 2014 edition of its popular guidebook The Best 378 Colleges.

The university was recognized with the following rankings in the 2014 edition:

  • Best of the West (one of 121 colleges and universities)
  • #4 in the “Most Religious Students” category
  • #3 in the “Most Popular Study Abroad Program” category

Fiske Guide to Colleges

UD has been named to the 2014 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges, making it the only Catholic college or university to receive such an honor in the southwestern United States.

Institute of International Education

UD ranks high when it comes to the percentage of undergraduate students who study abroad for academic credit, according to the Institute of International Education (IIE). Due in large part to the number of students who spend a semester at our Rome campus, the organization, in its “Open Doors 2013 Report on International Educational Exchange,” ranked UD:

  • #5 nationally among all master’s institutions

“Master’s Institutions” are categorized by the 2010 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as colleges and universities that generally award at least 50 master’s degrees and fewer than 20 doctoral degrees each year.

Institute of International Education

PARADE

UD was named to the PARADE magazine College A-List in their Aug. 22, 2011, issue. The survey, comprised of feedback from high school counselors across the United States, recognized the university’s liberal arts program and studio arts program as being among the top programs in the nation.

Political Theory Professors

In a national survey of political theory professors, the UD’s doctoral program in political theory was ranked 28 out of 106 other similar programs.

UD received an “A” in the fifth annual “What Will They Learn” college ratings announced by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), which bases its ratings in large part on how many of seven specified core course requirements an institution requires in its curriculum. The university was one of 22 schools in the nation that best prepare undergraduates for the workforce. We were also designated a “Hidden Gem” as one of only three institutions to receive credit for every rating criteria.

Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine

UD has been recognized by the finance magazine as one of the country's best values for liberal arts colleges in 2014. The publication's annual list ranks 100 private universities and 100 liberal arts colleges that provide high-quality academics at a reasonable cost.

UD is one of only six Catholic liberal arts institutions and three in Texas to make the list.
