Summer Rome Program
The Summer Rome Program seeks to enlighten students to the ideas that shaped the history of Europe, the Church, and modernity as a whole.
About the Program
The University offers a six-week summer Rome program for both UD and non-UD undergraduate students who have completed their freshman year. The program is designed as an attractive alternative and/or supplement to the fall and spring semester programs, or as an opportunity for undergraduates from other institutions to experience the university's signature Rome Program. Like our semester program, students will be housed on the Eugene Constantin Rome campus at Due Santi. The program offers a further choice for transfer students, older students or those whose schedule will not accommodate a full semester abroad.
The Courses
The 2013 Summer Rome Program will offer two three-credit courses not presently offered in the spring and fall Rome semesters: English 3375, The Catholic Imagination: Truth and Beauty in Art, Literature, and Music and Theology 4V57, Faith and Culture. All students must register for both courses for a total of six credit hours.
The Travels
Unlike most study abroad programs, your classroom is Rome and the other cities and sites you will visit. Faculty-led day and overnight trips will be scheduled throughout the six weeks. Last summer trips included visits to Anzio, Assisi, the Castelli Romani, Fossanova, Montecassino, Nettuno, Orvieto, Sicily and Subiaco.
Dates, Costs, Application
The Summer Rome Program runs for six weeks. Students will arrive in Rome May 27 and depart July 8, 2013. The program cost is $6000. This price includes tuition, all fees, room and board on campus, and land travel on faculty-led day and overnight tours in Rome and Italy. The program cost does not include overseas airfare, airport transfer and independent travel. We will continue to accept applications on a rolling basis while space is available.
The Faculty
University professors who have lived in Italy and taught for the University of Dallas Rome Program are assisted by staff members who have had experience working with the University of Dallas' study abroad programs. All members of the staff are selected with an eye on the importance of eliminating the inefficiencies of traveling in a foreign country while also promoting a serious intellectual community.
The Rome Campus
No noisy city setting here. The University's ten-acre Eugene Constantin Campus rests in the beautiful foothills just off the Via Appia southeast of Rome, where ancient Rome got its start and where Romans and popes take their summer rest. Take a walk in the kiwi grove, kick around a soccer ball, eat fresh Italian food in our mensa, take a dip in the pool, work out in the exercise room, or just sit in the pergola above the working vineyard. You'll find it come paradiso-like paradise-on the grounds of this beautiful former villa.
