Robert Scherer

Dean, College of Business

During his tenure as dean of Cleveland State University's College of Business, Scherer has strategically focused on positioning the college as a vital economic force in the community, building academic programs to meet the market needs of the regional business community. He has also introduced a number of new programs to encourage more innovative approaches in teaching, research and service, as well as internal operations. Over the last eight years, Scherer has secured more than $6 million in federal, state and local grant and contract funds for international and small business academic and business outreach programs.

Prior to his work at Cleveland State University, Scherer held the positions of associate dean and professor at Wright State University's Raj Soin College of Business and assistant professor at Kennesaw (Georgia) State College. In addition, he has consulted with more than 50 private, public and nonprofit organizations on a variety of organizational and performance issues. 

Additionally, he served as a Rotary International Teaching Fellow and as a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Chile at the University of Concepcion from 1998-1999. Fluent in Spanish, Scherer has taught extensively and continues to teach courses and workshops in Chile and Spain on leadership, teamwork and organizational development. He has published more than 150 scholarly and professional works including journal articles, conference papers, edited editions, book chapters and reviews.

 Scherer holds a doctorate in business administration from the University of Mississippi, a master’s degree in management from the University of the Redlands and a bachelor’s degree in communication and theater from Miami (Ohio) University. He is also certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
