A native of Abilene, Texas, Sammy '11 chose the University of Dallas School of Ministry for his graduate work.
"The School of Ministry is a gem in the Dallas area for people who want to be equipped for ministry in the Church." Sammy graduated with a master's degree in theological studies in May 2011, and is now a campus minister at Southern Methodist University (SMU). He says that his education at UD left him well prepared to minister to college students.
He attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene for his undergraduate degree. After graduation, he began taking classes online at the University of Dallas in the School of Ministry. "I wanted to participate in a program at a school that is known for its academic rigor but where I could also gain practical experience through an internship." He says he was also intrigued by the mission and vision of UD and heard from other people in the Abilene community that UD was a great school.
Around the same time, Sammy became involved in youth and music ministry programs in Abilene. When a job opportunity arose at SMU, he moved to Dallas and was able to take his School of Ministry classes on campus, an experience he really enjoyed. He says that his time at UD helped take him from a young man with good intentions to a well-trained ministry professional.
In addition to his work at SMU, Sammy was also a staff member at UD's Office of Student Life during the 2011-2012 academic year. He was the resident coordinator for the New Residence Hall and oversaw the students and resident assistants in that hall.
