University of Dallas Ministry Conference Draws Thousands to ‘Walk Together in Faith’

Bishop Kevin FarrellLast weekend, more than 5,000 people attended the sixth annual University of Dallas Ministry Conference (UDMC), the second largest ministry conference of its kind in the nation. The conference filled all four floors in its new venue, the Irving Convention Center, and provided multicultural worship services and 134 sessions split between three languages—English, Spanish and Vietnamese. The 70 speakers talked on topics relevant to the modern Church, and 107 exhibitors brought countless resources to help teachers, catechists, religious educators and lay Catholics alike, evangelize the faith.

Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles delivered the Friday keynote address, while Fr. Jack Wall of the Catholic Extension Society and Alejandro Aguilara-Titus of the USCCB Secretariat for Cultural Diversity in the Church, presented powerful and popular addresses on Saturday. These keynote presenters helped inspire all of the attendees to "Walk Together in Faith," especially during this Year of Faith. UDMC also hosted many other noted Catholic scholars, writers, ministers and musicians, including journalist John Allen and musician Steve Angrisano.

"We extend a special thank you to the UDMC Advisory Committee, composed of members from both the Diocese of Dallas and the Diocese of Fort Worth, and more than 100 volunteers who helped throughout the two-day event. We could not host this conference without their support in both planning and implementation," said Oscar Carranza, coordinator of the conference. ""Overall, the 2012 University of Dallas Ministry Conference was a great success that we'll build upon as we plan next year's event, which is set for Oct. 25-26."
