Undergraduate classes for the 2014-15 school start Wednesday, Sept. 3, but new students started moving into residence halls Friday, Aug. 29. Among the residence halls housing the Class of 2018 is the newly renovated Gregory Hall, which is an all-female hall starting this fall (it has been traditionally all-male for a number of years).
The members of the Class of 2018 hail from 42 states, 246 cities and five countries, with 7,686 miles from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, being the farthest a new student will travel to get to the UD campus in Irving, Texas.
According to the Office of Undergraduate Admission, move-in went smoothly, with families arriving at a steady pace that allowed individual attention from the team of more than 50 orientation leaders and admission counselors -- as well as President Thomas W. Keefe -- on hand to greet and help them.
"We had time to chat with the students and get to know them, rather than just checking them in and moving on to the next person," said Grace Zischkau, BA '16, one of the orientation leaders.
With 60 percent from outside of Texas, the Class of 2018 is 83 percent Catholic and boasts 14 National Merit Finalists, so they should fit right in here at UD.
