President Thomas Keefe will join other Catholic university presidents across the nation in fasting in support of immigration reform on Ash Wednesday, March 5. "Fast for Families" participants will abstain from food for 24 hours as an act of solidarity with those who suffer because of immigration policies.
"As we remember Christ's suffering and temptation in the wilderness, we pray for immigrants who hunger and thirst for justice," said President Keefe.
Catholic university presidents join the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in supporting immigration legislation reform. "Fast for Families" participants are supporting efforts that will offer undocumented persons a path to citizenship and promote family unity.
"With more than 30 percent of Catholics identifying as Hispanic, immigration reform is something that hits very close to home for Catholics," said President Keefe. "We pray that by joining others across the country in this small act of sacrifice the hearts of elected officials will be touched and leaders will be moved to act."
