Affordable Care Act Provides New Care Options Through Insurance Marketplace

MarketplaceAs new elements of the Affordable Care Act are taking effect in 2014, UD is required to inform all employees, including student employees, of a new option for health insurance that might be available to them.

The Health Insurance Marketplace (HIM) is designed to help people compare the different private health insurance options available to them. People are only eligible to purchase insurance through the HIM if the benefits package offered by their employer does not meet certain standards.

All UD employees will receive an email from the HR Department with more information about HIM benefits today. Further information about eligibility and an online application for health insurance coverage through HIM are available at www.healthcare.gov.

"The Human Resources Office is able to answer questions about benefits available to employees through CARES. However, we are legally prevented from discussing options available through the Health Insurance Marketplace," said Townsend. "You are encouraged to visit www.healthcare.gov for information about the marketplace exchanges."

Those who have not received the email by the end of today, or who would like a hard copy, are asked to contact Human Resources at hr@udallas.edu or ext. 5382.
