Bush Library Dedication May Bring Congested Roadways to DFW Area

George W. BushUD faculty and staff will notice increased traffic and road closures in Dallas this week due to Southern Methodist University's George W. Bush Presidential Center dedication ceremony. President Barack Obama and four former U.S. presidents — George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush and Jimmy Carter — will visit Dallas Thursday to attend the 10 a.m. ceremony.

"Unless you have urgent business in that area, I would recommend avoiding SMU and its surroundings on Thursday. The traffic and security will be extraordinary," said President Thomas W. Keefe.

Faculty and staff who pass through this area of Dallas should plan on allowing extra time for their commutes. On Thursday, April 25, the southbound US-75 frontage road will be closed from University Boulevard to Mockingbird Lane. Information about other road closures and parking near SMU from Wednesday, April 24-Friday, April 26 is available here.

Hundreds of law enforcement officials and Secret Service agents are expected at the ceremony, which will open the center focusing on Bush's presidency with a library, museum, presidential archives, public policy institute and a 15-acre park.

"As with any national event, it is incumbent upon us all to be aware of our surroundings and to report anything extraordinary to an appropriate official," said President Keefe.
