Tomorrow, seniors will process into the Church of the Incarnation to celebrate four years of hard work, receive departmental awards and share their post-graduation plans during the 2013 Convocation ceremony. All faculty, staff, students and alumni are invited to attend the May 9 ceremony, which begins at 3:30 p.m.
The senior class has chosen Deandra Lieberman as their valedictorian and invited Andrew Moran, associate professor of English, to give the convocation address, which he has tentatively titled "Dancing with Aquinas."
Lieberman, who will address the Class of 2013 at convocation and commencement, is an English major with a concentration in Medieval and Renaissance studies. She was invited to join academic honor society Phi Beta Kappa as a junior, an honor given to few students. Lieberman serves as president of UD's chapter of the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta and edits scholarly writing for the undergraduate journal, The University Scholar. She passed her Senior Novel presentation on Vladmir Nabokov's "Pnin" with distinction.
"Deandra is a truly sparkling student, whose delight in the works is matched by her excellence in analyzing them," said Debra Romanick Baldwin, associate professor of English and Lieberman's Senior Novel professor. "In a seminar, I can always trust Deandra both to deepen—and to enliven—the conversation."
