The Catholic University for Independent Thinkers
Louise Cowan, long-time member of the English faculty and one of the first Braniff
Graduate School of Liberal Arts deans, turned 96 years old on Dec. 22, 2012. Cowan,
who joined UD's English department in 1959, was hugely influential in the design of
the English program and the Core curriculum. She also served as a founding member
of The Teacher's Institute at the Dallas Institute for Humanities and Culture.
"Louise Cowan is a living legacy. It is rare that an institution has the opportunity to visit with and gain intellectual inspiration from one of the individuals that was virtually responsible for shaping and framing the distinctive curriculum of the university," said President Thomas W. Keefe."On behalf of the entire university community we hope Louise Cowan had a wonderful 96th birthday and we pray and hope for many more to come."
