Undergraduate Business Student Named a Finalist in National Sales Competition

Updated Oct. 4: Mary Trinko finished 16th out of 150 in the final round of the Sales Decathlon at Northern Illinois University.

Mary Trinko, BA '15, an undergraduate business major, has been named a Top 20 finalist in the "Sales Decathlon," a national sales competition sponsored by Northern Illinois University (NIU). Trinko competed against 130 students total. As a finalist, she will compete at NIU's College of Business from October 2-4 in DeKalb, Ill., accompanied by Laura Serviere-Munoz, an assistant professor in the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business.

"I am delighted in Mary's performance and strong commitment to her personal and professional growth," said Serviere-Munoz.

As part of the competition so far Trinko has successfully developed a pre-call sales analysis and secured a meeting with a gatekeeper as part of the first round of events. All events are judged on criteria such as correctly questioning to identify customer's concept and buyer's influences, value proposition, call to action, and overcoming objections among others.
