To the Staff of the University of Dallas,
As our campus settles into semester routines and schedules, the junior class has been hard at work planning events for this year's Wild West Charity Week, Oct. 6-12. With organization underway, we believe it is important to recognize the role of the university's faculty and staff in this annual tradition.
We hope you are as eager to participate in this annual tradition as we are to share it with you. In past years, students, professors and staff have swapped stories in the jail, gotten caught in the wet crossfire of K.A.O.S., and enjoyed the carnival of Family Day.
With only a short time until Charity Week, we invite you to start marking your calendars for your favorite events. On Sunday, Oct. 6, we will herald in the festivities with Family Day. You and your whole family are invited to eat, play and be merry from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on the campus Mall, so join us for a fun day!
No western week would be complete without a viewing of the classic spaghetti western, "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" starring Clint Eastwood. Come enjoy some excellent Italian food with friends and family at our Spaghetti Western: Movie & Dinner Night on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in the West Hall Courtyard. Faculty, staff and students eat for $5 and faculty/staff children eat for $3.
Thursday and Friday of next week, the Silent Auction will be running in Haggar foyer, so feel free to put together a department-themed basket or stop by and stake your claim on one of the items available for purchase. Student Activities will be accepting donated items for the auction. Please include the donation/contribution form found on the Charity Week webpage with your donation. All donations are due Wednesday, Oct. 9.
This year, the Charity Week Committee has planned an old fashioned Cowboys & Indians Human Chess Game. The greatest rivals that these parts have seen in years will meet face to face on the chess board at high noon on Friday, Oct. 11! The Cowboys, the Sciences and Math Departments, and the Indians, the Humanities Departments, will duel for the ultimate title in a game of live chess. For more information, please e-mail Rachel Luquette at email@example.com.
Of course, your participation and attendance is welcome in all events throughout the week. For a full list of activities throughout the week please visit udallas.edu/charityweek. Charity Week is an important tradition to students, and it could only be more enjoyable to share the experience with all members of the UD community. We heartily thank you for your enthusiasm during Charity Week, and for all you do to make the University of Dallas the beloved institution it is today.
