The 2013 University of Dallas Regional Juried Ceramic Competition will open on Tuesday,
Jan. 22, in the Beatrice M. Haggerty Gallery. The exhibit offers an opportunity for
ceramic artists 18 years and older who currently reside in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas,
Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas to show their functional and sculptural
work in the dynamic area of North Texas.
Event juror Les Manning will select two "Best of Show" winners, who will be invited for solo exhibits at UD the following academic year. A ceramic artist for more than 30 years, Manning's personal forms focus on the interpretation of the Canadian Rocky Mountain landscape where he lived for 25 years. His wheel thrown and altered forms capture the abstract qualities of this sculptural environment. These works have been exhibited and collected on three continents.
"Manning, the former director of ceramics at the Banff Centre for the Arts, a prominent international artists' residency program. Currently, he holds the post of senior artist in residence at Medalta," said Sherry Giryotas, Haggerty Gallery manager.
