Greetings!

The spring semester is in full swing, and I hope your student is adjusting to a new semester at UD. The weather continues to be warm one day and freezing the next - no wonder people are getting sick! We have had a respiratory virus on campus causing sinus infections and bronchitis, as well as a stomach virus with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. As viral illnesses, these rarely need antibiotics; supportive care and rest are the best aids for a quick recovery. We also had two cases of the flu last week (tested positive for Influenza A), so that is starting to spread, as well. Fortunately, we have a vaccine for that one, so please encourage your students to go to the Student Health Clinic for the flu shot, get plenty of sleep, eat well and wash their hands often. Hopefully, your students are doing well, staying healthy and taking an active role in their education.

The cold weather did not stop the students from enjoying the Groundhog Party in the Park. Encourage your student to get out and get involved! For ways to participate in campus life, students should check out the Student Activities calendar, visit OrgSync and attend the Activities Fair on February 25-27. Part of the educational process is what students learn outside the classroom. UD has a lot to offer, and getting involved is also a great resume builder! Employers like to see that students developed themselves outside of the classroom, as well.

Bishop Michael Olson, who has served as the rector of Holy Trinity Seminary for the last five years, was ordained the chief shepherd of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth on January 29. Read more.

March 1, 2014, is the financial aid priority deadline for the 2014-2015 school year. If your student will be enrolled at UD for fall 2014 and plans to apply for loans, grants or work study, please submit your FAFSA by March 1. After March 1, our financial aid is awarded on a first come, first serve basis, so I encourage you to complete and submit your FAFSA before that date. The FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Contact the Office of Financial Aid at 972.721.5266 or finaid@udallas.edu with any questions.

Midterm exams take place the week of March 3-7. Students should remember to visit the writing lab, get tutoring and speak to professors when help is needed. Click HERE for a list of the resources and tutoring sessions available. Residence halls will close at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8 for Spring Break. Please take a look at the Spring Break Hall Closing Reminder that students will receive in early March.

Parents are invited to join Alumni Relations on UD's Eugene Constantin campus at Due Santi for La Vacanza Romana on May 22-26, 2014. Find out more at alumni.udallas.edu/vacanza.

We hope all students are enjoying the new semester. Our office is here for both students and parents who may have questions or concerns.

All the best to you and your family,

Campus Ministry

Senior Silent Retreat
UD's Office of Campus Ministry is pleased to offer a silent retreat to all college seniors in the DFW area. This retreat is a wonderful opportunity for seniors to step back, pray and reflect upon their time in college, and to prepare spiritually for the new adventures ahead of them. The retreat will be on the grounds of the beautiful Camp Copass on April 11-12, 2014. Click HERE for more information.
