Welcome to a New School Year!

We hope your sons and daughters returned to campus with the same joy that we had in seeing them. Thanks to all of our new parents and families who attended the orientation program. It was wonderful seeing so many new faces and we hope that everyone took away something positive and helpful. Welcome back to our returning families! We are looking forward to an exciting year.

This e-newsletter is PACKED FULL of good reading!  Be sure to click on all the links so you do not miss any of the important information we have to share with you.

For those unable to attend New Student & Parent Orientation, I would like to share Student Government President Will Chavey's engaging, energizing and humorous speech with you.

Campus is already buzzing with many events and activities. On September 16, Dr. Doe has invited Dr. Filo Maldonado, Director of Admissions at Texas A&M Health Science Center, to talk with students about the medical school admission process. The Office of Personal and Career Development will be hosting Professional Viewpoints September 16-24, which will be a great opportunity for students to enhance their resumes and even attend a mock interview.

Please encourage your student to attend the upcoming Self-Defense Seminar hosted by Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense on Saturday, September 28 in the Maher Athletic Center. This workshop will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will highlight personal defense and awareness skills that all young adults should have. The workshop will be divided into two parts and focus on the ground work self-defense techniques. Students can sign up for this event via Org Sync. This seminar is being offered by the Office of Student Life as part of the Personal and Sexual Violence Awareness Program.

The Office of Admission is seeking Crusader family volunteers to represent the university at various college fairs and host off-campus receptions for admitted students in cities across the country. To volunteer, please contact Lacy de la Garza at lacydelagarza@udallas.edu

New Hall becomes West Hall...for now. Just as New Hall was never meant to be the permanent name for the most recent residence hall to be built at the University of Dallas, the new name, West Hall, is not meant to be permanent. In fact, the Office of Advancement is actively searching for the best possible prospective donor to approach with a naming rights proposal that would finally give the building a name to call its own. So, you ask, "Why West Hall?" It's simple: the name comes from its location on the campus' west side, and the fact that it can no longer be considered new.

UD routinely sends important information via e-mail to all students at their udallas.edu e-mail address.  It is important that students check their UD e-mail accounts regularly. The Office of Student Life, Student Account Services, Office of Financial Aid and Registrar's Office are just some of the offices on campus that rely heavily on e-mail to reach students.

As a reminder, The Odyssey, this e-newsletter, is what you will receive monthly every year that your son or daughter is a student at UD. It is written for YOU. If you have thoughts or suggestions that could help us serve you better, email us at parents@udallas.edu.

Finally, thank you for blessing us with your children. We are excited to watch them grow in purpose, service and leadership over the next few months.

Hope to see you at Alumni & Family Weekend, October 4-6, 2013!

A Ministry of Empowering:  UD's Campus Ministry Team

"Our job is not to give you the answers.  We don't have all the answers. Our job is to walk with you at this time of your life to help you in your spiritual life," says Scott Chuchla, Campus Minister, when explaining why students should become involved with UD's Campus Ministry.  Read more...
