Director of Human Resources
Janis Townsend, SPHR
Janis directs the operation of the HR department coordinating policy and procedure
issues and employee relations. The majority of her time is spent consulting with managers
and department heads on strategic issues, performance management and supervision of
the HR staff. She also serves on the University's International Committee. Janis has
been designated by the University to be the Title IX coordinator, ADA/Section 504
coordinator and Age Discrimination Act coordinator.
Janis graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary
Education as well as a Master of Education in Counseling and Family Studies. Janis
has over 20 years Human Resources experience in private industry in the real estate,
financial services and software industries.
On a personal note, Janis attempts to keep up with three active children and enjoys
bicycling and quilting. She actively leads the implementation of mission work in Peru
with plans to actively serve the spiritual and social needs of the poor in Lima with
the culmination of a first project at the end of 2006.
Human Resources Manager
Daphne handles benefits, C.O.B.R.A., F.M.L.A. and Workers Compensation issues for
University employees. She chairs the Safety Committee, acts as the Tuition Exchange
Liaison for the University and coordinates the University's blood drive program.
Daphne is a graduate of the University of Dallas with a Bachelor of Arts in German.
She has over nine years Human Resources experience and over six years experience working
in higher education.
Human Resources Generalist
Liz Engelke, SPHR
Liz coordinates the hiring of staff positions for the University. Additionally, she
serves as the ADA representative for the University and is on the ADA committee. Liz
is also the United Way coordinator.
Liz came to UD in the fall of 1997 to complete her undergraduate studies. She received
her B.A. in 2001 and her Masters in Psychology in 2005. Liz is a member of Phi Beta
Kappa, Psi Chi, and is the recipient of the 2001 Adrian van Kaam award in psychology.
She worked in the Rome office from May 2004 before joining the Human Resources department
in April of 2007.
Human Resources Coordinator
Melissa coordinates student employment for the University, organizes student appreciation
events and assists with staff/faculty events throughout the year. She joined the University
of Dallas in 2006 and served the College of Business in an administrative role for
over 3 years. She has a passion for working with students in higher education and
began her new role in HR in 2011.
Melissa and her family moved to Texas in 2006. She and her husband have two children
and she enjoys spending time with them and her church family whenever she can. She
also holds a great interest in writing and is currently working on a piece which she
hopes to one day have published.
Human Resources Administrative Assistant
Laney coordinates administrative activities part-time for the University. She joined
the Human Resources department in February 2012.
Laney received her BBA from Baylor University and is currently working on her MBA
in Human Resources at UD. She and her husband enjoy playing with their two dogs and
spending time with family.
