Meet the 2013-2014 Resident Assistants (RA's)

Resident Assistants are upperclassman that supervise the residence halls they are assigned to. They are the first point of contact for residential questions and concerns, and are responsible for the general welfare of the students living in their hall. If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to talk, feel free to knock on their doors or write them an email.

Why did you become an RA?
In high school, I was a "room leader" and I really enjoyed being in charge of a my own room and in my mind being an RA seemed like the next step.
I really want to be an RA at UD that gets to know everyone and is always there to assist when possible. I want to be extremely approachable, to the point where if students are having issues with anything they can feel comfortable coming to me and talking about it.

What Events Would you like to hold?
Dodgeball tournament, movie /watching, and help with club Donna

Why did you become an RA?
I wanted to become an RA in order to share my time and efforts with the UD community and hopefully have a positive impact on my residents.

What events would you like to hold?
I'd really like to bring the musicians out of closed doors and host an event showcasing the musical talents of the hall. I'd also like to hold an academic event giving experienced upperclassmen a chance to impart their perspectives on the UD curriculum, the Rome semester, and how to make the most of it all.

Why did you become an RA?
I wanted to become an RA because of the sense of community gained by living in the dorms. As a Freshman, I really appreciated everything that my RA's did for us. It truly helped me to get settled in at UD. I hope to do the same thing for all of you in Theresa Hall this year!

What events would you like to hold?
Some of my current ideas for hall events are art therapy, tea parties, Disney movies, Zumba sessions, chick-flicks, music concerts, Breakfast in "Bed", and more! Please let me know if there's any events you'd like to see us host this year!

Why did you become an RA?
I wanted to be able to help the freshmen to have an enjoyable, smooth transition into college. I had amazing examples of upperclassmen and wonderful RA's that certainly helped me to settle into the UD family. Each freshman should feel warmly welcomed into the UD community, and I am absolutely happy to share in their transition experience.

What events would you like to hold?
Voice changing competitions; A reflection on what it means to be women of God; talks given by interests in academic areas, including conversational time with the gifted professors of UD; a range of nerdy, romantic, and goofy movies; Greek discoteca; Family baking days; Rosary times; Fort building in common areas; girl talk; Holiday parties; Tye-dyeing; anything of interest to the girls of Theresa Hall!

Why did you become an RA?
I enjoy new responsibilities and challenges, and I love being with people. Also, I want to help the incoming freshmen. I want to take an active role in helping them get acclimated to university life and housing so as to help make their transition as smooth as possible. As much as I can, I'd like to build a personal rapport with each student in the hall, so they feel like they are an important member of the UD community.

What events would you like to hold?
A Christmas party (with Christmas movies and a dorm-wide "Secret Santa" gift exchange) right before Christmas break; Thanksgiving and Easter dinners (I plan to cook for and eat with the students who are staying in the hall during these breaks); various craft/decorating parties (I love crafts and have many ideas I think students would enjoy); various movie nights; and at least one or two outdoor events (weather permitting), like a scavenger hunt with prizes, or a picnic on the grass outside the hall.

Why did you become an RA?
I've always functioned better when I have responsibilities, and the RA position is one of the best positions of responsibility I can think of. I also truly enjoy interacting with people, and the RA position is an excellent way to do that. Both my parents were RA's, so it is kind of a family thing.

What events would you like to hold?
I intend to host an event on film criticism and film construction, as that is one of my biggest interests. I hope to use it to help other people develop their own appreciation of film, and to teach other people about the work that goes into actually making films. Poker was also a pastime of mine, and I intend to host at least one and possibly multiple poker tournaments during the year.

Why did you become an RA?
I had an awesome RA my freshman year- she was fun, open, and really wanted to be there for her residents in any way possible. After asking for her advice during a difficult time, I realized that what I'd assumed the RA position was- making sure everyone follows the rules, and writing them up when they don't-wasn't really accurate at all. In reality, an RA truly looks out for their residents in any way they can by providing connections to campus resources, sound advice, or simply by lending a helping hand. I wanted to help others in the same way that I was once helped.

What events would you like to hold?
Some events I might hold include:
-Healthy baking night
-Make-your-own door decorations and door-decorating contest (holiday-themed)
- Patron Saint of the hall Trivia contest w/ prizes
-DIY workout gear (make tank tops out of old Tshirts)
-Blast from the Past (fun snacks, coloring pages, and a kid's movie)
-Importance of hydration (decorate coasters/water bottles)
