ResNet
ResNet is AIS's extension of our Ethernet network to university students living in
our residence halls. ResNet offers one dedicated network connection to each student.
What do I need to access ResNet?
- Ethernet Card
- You must have a standard (straight-through) category 5 patch cable. These can be purchased
from our bookstore or any computer store, Walmart, Target and more. (Note: A typical
telephone line WILL NOT work. It must be a Cat 5 Ethernet cable.) One end will plug
into the network card in your computer, while the other will plug into the network
jack on the wall. Since you may not know how far your computer will be from the network
jack, and you'll probably move several times, we recommend you purchase a 25 ft. cable.
- Your computer requires no specific setup to access the internet on ResNet beyond setiting
it to get its IP address from the network.
- If you have questions regarding the network services and applications that we are
able to provide on ResNet, please read the Student Network Classification Policy.
Please note, Internet-based video conferencing applications such as iChat and broadband
VoIP telephony applications from providers such as Vonage and Skype ARE NOT supported
on the student network.
