This month, the Office of Student Activities joined up with Rotaract Club and adopted 85 Angels through the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program, which provides Christmas gifts for children and senior citizens in need. Last year, this program provided 59,000 individuals in the DFW Metroplex with assistance. Under the leadership of Student Activities and Rotaract, University of Dallas students, faculty and staff were able to select and shop for an angel. All 85 Angels adopted by UD were children, ages two months to 13 years. Those who adopted the angels were given the opportunity to shop for them, and generously donated many gifts for the children in need. It is very important for UD, as a Catholic community, to find opportunities like the Angel Tree Program to demonstrate Christian charity and help those less fortunate. And what better time to do so than the Christmas season? It is heartening to imagine that the pair of boots or winter coat chosen for an Angel will help keep the child warm through the cold weather. How precious to think that the toy you picked out may become the child's very favorite toy for years to come?
