The Joint Admissions Medical Program (JAMP) helps to support and encourage highly qualified, economically disadvantaged Texas resident students pursuing a medical education. Private universities in Texas are generally given one slot for a JAMP student each year.
Last year Kalonda (John) Kabangu was accepted as UD's JAMP student. This year UD has received an unprecedented number of JAMP acceptances—three of our sophomores have been invited into the program. Our three newest UD JAMPers are Yasmin Fatemi, Vincent Athas and Vanessa Loya.
After acceptance, JAMP students receive two prestigious summer internships, MCAT practice and mentoring by the JAMP faculty director and council. If they maintain an undergraduate cumulative and science GPA of 3.25 and attain a minimum MCAT score of 25, they are guaranteed admission to medical school in Texas.
Please join me in congratulating these students and encouraging them as they continue the path toward guaranteed medical school acceptance. Special thanks to Dr. Frank Doe (UD's JAMP faculty director and senior pre-health advisor) for working with these students throughout the application and interview process. Most private universities only get a single (and some strike out) with JAMP—without Frank, UD would have never gotten this triple!
