We encourage you to take a look at last year's Parent Orientation schedule for a better idea of the events that will take place during Parent Orientation 2013. Please note that all events are subject to change.
Move In 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
All new residents may go directly to their assigned residence hall and pick up their
room keys and then move into their new residence hall room. Orientation Leaders will
be available to help unload cars.
Campus Open 8:30 am - 2:00 pm
Offices of Financial Aid, Business Office, Student Life & Housing, Printing and Postal,
and the Bookstore will be open to help you with any last minute questions and to get
your student ready for the first day of classes.
Commuter Check In 8:30 am - 9:45 am
Commuter students and their parents may pick up orientation packets.
Welcome and Orientation Overview 10:00 -11:00 am
All new students and their families are invited to this session welcoming them into
the UD community.
Lunch 11:00 am & 12 noon
Academic/Faculty Expectations 11:00 am & 12 noon
What is it like to go to class at UD? What do professors expect from their students?
What should students expect from their professors? Come be part of a lively discussion
between a UD faculty member and UD students so that you can be in the know!
Academic Policies and Procedures 1 pm & 1:45 pm
Undergraduate Deans, key administrators, and staff will discuss the academic program
- including advising, registration, choice of major and the Core Curriculum.
Life Outside the Classroom 1 pm & 1:45 pm
Find out how your student can get plugged into campus. You will have the opportunity
to hear about Campus Ministry, Student Activities, Athletics, Career Services and
Residence Life.
Safety, Health, Wellness & Student Success 2:30 pm & 3:15 pm
Representatives from Campus Safety, the Health and Counseling Centers, and Academic
Success Office provide information and discuss the services offered.
Transitions 2:30 pm & 3:15 pm
UD Counselor Mike Brock discusses the new role parents have now that they are parents
of a college student.
Dietary Concerns with ARAMARK 4:00 - 4:30 pm
The Dining Services director will discuss food choices for students with special dietary
concerns.
Mass 5:00 pm
The University Chaplain will preside over this special Mass to welcome all new families
into the UD community.
Parent and Student Happy Trails to You Farewell 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Immediately following Mass, we officially close our New Parent Orientation. A Texas
style reception will be served. You will have time to eat dinner in the Cafe or take
your student off campus for dinner. Make sure to leave time for hugs, kisses and goodbyes
as the students have been invited to Casino Night which begins at 9:30 pm.
