Galleria Borghese: April 17, 2013

At the Galleria Borghese, a beautiful villa-turned-museum situated among the Borghese Gardens, the students listened to Dr. Lisot speak about Gian Lorenzo Bernini and the intricacies of his breathtaking sculpture The Rape of Persephone. In an effort to better understand Baroque sculpture they also visited the Apollo and Daphne, and the David. Also in the museum are fantastic works by Caravaggio: namely St. Jerome, Madonna and Child with St. Anne (Madonna of the Serpents), and Young Bacchus. Afterward students wandered through the extensive and beautiful gardens, renting bikes or enjoying the spring afternoon lounging under the tress.
