Art & Architecture at the Roman Forum
Once the downtown of ancient Rome, the Forum Romanum was home to the city's most important political deliberations, public speeches, trials, triumphal processions, and even to the funeral of Julius Caesar. In an effort to understand the evolution of this multifunctional space over time, as well as to study its buildings up-close and in-person, Art and Architecture students took to the ruins on the bright and sunny afternoon of Wednesday 13 February. Led by Dr. Laura Flusche, they made their way from basilicas to triumphal arches and from temples to political meeting places, all the while discussing the ways in which such buildings were used and constructed and the meanings they carried for citizens of ancient Rome.
