This joint program provides high school and independent college counselors with a chance to experience first-hand the opportunities and cultures of our campuses. North Texas has many exciting possibilities for college students, and we want you to learn more about them throughout the days of Magic in the Metroplex!

Note: Only submissions received prior to October 15, 2020 will be considered for the spring 2021 Magic in the Metroplex tour. Submissions received after October 15, 2020 will be considered for the spring 2022 Magic in the Metroplex tour.

What colleges are included on the Magic in the Metroplex tour? 

Austin College, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University and the University of Dallas are excited to show you our campuses during this event.

When is Magic in the Metroplex tour scheduled for?

The dates for the spring 2021 tour are coming soon! We typically hold this event in late February or early March.

What is the structure of the tour?

Our tentative structure for the event includes check in on Sunday afternoon, two campus tours on Monday, two campus tours on Tuesday and a concluding breakfast with enrollment leaders from each institution on Wednesday morning.

Can I leave early or arrive late for the tour?

No, if you are selected to attend the tour, you are expected to be present for the entirety of the program. (no exceptions)

What is covered by the tour? What is not covered by the tour?

We will reimburse up to $350 in travel expenses (flights, mileage, etc.) We will also cover the cost for you to stay in a hotel. This coverage is based on double occupancy - we will pair you with a roommate. We typically allow participants to request single rooms for an additional charge. These additional charges vary by year, but are usually around $120/night + taxes. These charges will be billed directly to you, if you opt into a single room accommodation. While we will provide most meals for you, we typically have one dinner “on your own” in the city that we do not cover.

How does the invitation process work?

We can host 55 counselors each year. We typically have over 700-800 inquiries each year. We do not extend an invitation to every inquiry. We will extend invitations to a select group from the inquiry pool, and since we know not everyone we invite will say yes, we typically invite more than 55 people. If you are selected for invitation, you can either fill a slot in the program or secure a spot on the waitlist. Slots will be filled by invited counselors on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are not selected to receive an invitation, you will be notified and asked to reinquire for the following year.

New Scholarships Forge Connections, Open Opportunities

At UD, it is now possible to create a nonendowed, named scholarship with a minimum commitment of $20,000, which may be payable over up to four years. Recently, three families have done just this in order to forge a connection and provide needed aid to current students.

Weekly Campus Monitor: Early Testing Success

As in-person classes continue on campus, President Thomas S. Hibbs, Ph.D., BA '82 MA '83, spent time walking the UD Mall, gathering vital student feedback. He reported a joyful response to initial testing success, “especially among the seniors — how much they hope we can keep this going.” There have been only four positive tested cases out of nearly 1,000 tests performed on campus since June, with no active COVID-19 cases as of Friday, Sept. 4.
