Iván E. Araya Gómez is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Management,  Department of Economics, University of Concepcion, Chile and since 2006 Director for International Affairs at the University of Concepcion.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Nottingham, M.Sc. in Economics from University of London (QMC) and B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Buckingham.

Between 1987 and 1993, he was associated to the Centre for Research in Economic Development and International Trade (CREDIT) at the University of Nottingham and Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE), in México. He has been Executive Director for the Regional Economics Outlook and Executive Director for the Program of the Economics and Social Studies in Fisheries.   

He has held several administrative responsibilities among them, Head of the Economics Department, Director for Chile´s Economic Society (SECHI), Member of the Board of Editors at the Journal Economía y Administración.

Among his postgraduate activities, he is a professor at the Master Programme in Applied Economics, and the MBA Executive Programme all at the Faculty of Economics and Management., University of Concepcion. At the same time, he has taught in several other programmes like the Diploma Programme in European Studies, the Master Programme in Industrial Engineering, and the Master Programme in Politics and Government. Since 2014, he is Visiting Professor with Satish and Yasmin Gupta College of Business at the University of Dallas where he has taught Foundation for Business Economics at the MBA Program.

His areas of research are Money and Banking, Macroeconomics, and Business Economics where he has published several papers and articles in specialized journal and books.
