Each year since 1985, the University of Dallas community gathers for the prestigious
King/Haggar Haggerty Faculty Awards Ceremony to recognize and honor faculty who have
gone above and beyond in their commitment to the university and to their students.
This year, five Gupta College of Business faculty members were honored at the event.
Former Gupta College of Business Dean and Associate Professor of Management Blake Frank was the recipient of the Robert G. Lynch Lifetime Contribution Award for his history of outstanding service not only to the Gupta College of Business, but to the entire UD community.
“Blake is only the second recipient of the Robert G. Lynch Lifetime Contribution Award for his years of dedicated service and scholarly contribution to the Satish and Yasmin Gupta College of Business,” said Gupta College of Business Dean Brett J. L. Landry. “Many – myself included – view Blake as a catalyst that made the Gupta College of Business an integrated member of the University rather than a standalone graduate school."
Since joining the faculty in 1996, Frank has served on many university committees, including faculty senate, and also served as associate dean for the college of business for seven years.
Jenny Gu, associate professor of finance, received this year’s Impact Award as a master teacher and former recipient of the Haggerty Teaching Award.
“Semester after semester, students rave about Jenny’s incredible detail and concern for making a connection between the topics both in the classroom and in the world around them,” said Landry. “Her activities outside the classroom include coaching student teams in regional competitions and founding and leading the student-managed investment fund.”
Dale Fodness, associate professor of marketing, received the Innovation Award as an outstanding professor who has consistently employed novel and innovative teaching methods to achieve success in student learning in the classroom and online.
“Dale has made multiple contributions in the areas of mobile learning and technology integration in his classes. In addition, he’s frequently called on to consult for creative thinking projects on and off campus and I, personally, always enjoy collaborating with him,” said Landry.
Sheila Howard, assistant dean of the undergraduate business program, was given the Engagement Award for her role in guiding, teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate business students for more than 25 years at UD.
“In my 12 years at UD, I have seen her go out of her way to put students first and remind others why we are here at UD,” said Landry. “An undergraduate student recently said of Sheila, ‘She genuinely cares about student success and goes above and beyond to help them get the most out of their education at UD.’"
Sri Beldona, Professor of Management was honored as one of the recipients of the 2018 Haggerty Teaching Excellence Awards. This award — supported and made possible by the Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty Foundation — is determined by student and alumni votes and recognizes faculty for their dedication to and excellence in teaching.
In addition, four Gupta College of Business faculty members were provided research funding through the Haggar Scholar Award:
Jennifer Bannister, Assistant Professor of Accounting
Laura Muñoz, Associate Professor of Marketing
Rich Peregoy, Associate Professor of Management
Rob Walsh, Associate Professor of Accounting
