Investing in the Next Generation

Randy Muck HeadshotFor many, the term “retirement” can provoke dreams of fewer responsibilities and endless amounts of free time, but for Randy Muck, retirement just means having a different type of client.

As a former managing director at Accenture, a global management and technology consulting firm, where he worked for more than 30 years, Muck was responsible for over 2,000 professionals in Accenture’s Dallas office and also worked in a global role for the firm building strong client relationships with companies such as Walmart.

Upon retiring from Accenture, Muck actively began seeking new ways to use his time. Prompted by his desire to reinvest in the Catholic community and help younger generations navigate the business world, Muck discovered that, in his search to serve, “all roads led to UD.”   

Today, Muck is one of the founding members of the University of Dallas’ Executives in Residence program and currently mentors nine undergraduate students in the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business.

The Executives in Residence program aims to connect University of Dallas students with an executive mentor to help them navigate the transition from student to employee. Mentors help educate students about the types of industries and jobs available, provide practical wisdom, practice interviewing skills, and even celebrate job offers together.

When deciding to become a mentor, the University of Dallas’ Catholic identity was a differentiating factor. “There is a special individual here—they’re serious about life and the role they play as a working professional. UD is developing a well-grounded moral and ethical business leader. These women and men will be a significant force for good wherever they work and live,” said Muck. “I never feel like my time is wasted.”  

Muck’s message to those considering becoming mentors: “Seasoned business executives can make a tremendous impact on students. If someone wants to plug in to help the next generation, this is the place—you can devote as little or as much time as you have available.”
