HRCI has created the first-ever entry level certification for individuals wishing to jump start their career in the human resource field. Earning your aPHR credential will allow you prove your knowledge of the fundamentals of Human Resources. The aPHR certification will show potential employers you have a great foundational knowledge upon which to launch a career.

Early Bird Discount:

Students can earn an early bird discount by completing the registration process (including full payment) by the early bird deadline. The early bird period ends 30 days from the start of the class. In order to qualify for the early bird discount, students must fill out and submit the online registration form, and submit full payment prior to the early bird deadline (see registration deadline section for deadline information). 

Discounts:

Discounts are offered for UD Alumni and Students, UD Employees, Government Employees (federal and local), US Veterans, and SHRM or Dallas HR members. To qualify for the discount, students will be asked to provide an active .edu or .gov email; UD ID; or membership number.

Materials can only be shipped (via FedEx) once payment has been received.

Meet Your Instructor

Deborah AvrinDeborah Avrin, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, has been a human resources professional for over 18 years, holds a BBA in Human Resources and an MS in Organizational Behavior. Since 1999, her company Management Skills Resource Inc., has worked with organizations that want to build the confidence, competence and courage of their management teams through creative training workshops. Her training style is interactive and inspiring, which makes her a sought after facilitator for human resources and management development workshops.  

Ms. Avrin holds a lifetime Senior Professional in Human Resources certification and keeps current in training and human resources trends by her affiliation with Dallas HR and Dallas ASTD where she served as the 2007 President and as a HRCI Certifications instructor through the University of Dallas since 2001. Ms. Avrin is the author of the book The Management Map: Navigation Tools for the New Manager.

The University of Dallas can accept cash, check, or credit card payments. We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express using our online payment portal. Cash is accepted at our Business Office ONLY. Checks can be mailed to:

Payment Arrangement

For students who need a little help, we have a payment arrangement option available. This allows tuition to be broken down into multiple payments. Executive Education students who wish to participate will be required to fill out an additional online form during the registration process.

The payment arrangement splits tuition as follows:

  • Payment 1: $400
  • Payment 2: $350
  • Payment 3: $350

If a discount applies to you it will be deducted as part of the final payment.

Our class uses the aPHR Study Guide (2020 edition) from Distinctive HR.  The materials include:

  • study guide (paperback);
  • access to Learning Management System (1 year)
    with interactive flashcards, sample tests, training games, and videos
  • downloadable Audio Set
    mp3 files on test taking skills, glossary files, and content files covering the 6 exam areas.

About the Exam

Eligibility: high school diploma or global equivalent. No HR experience is required.

Exam Format:
Time: 2 hours and 15 minutes
Length: 100 scored questions + 25 pretest questions
Computer based exam at a Pearson VUE testing center.
Cost: $300 + $100 application fee
Testing Windows: None, test available year-round, subject to test center availability.

Romers Reunite After 30 Years

Cathleen (Gilmore) Guinn, BA ’91, Milagros “Millie” Lozano, Ph.D., BA ’91, and Anna (Gordon) Torres, BA ’91, met at the Cap Bar in November 2018, almost 30 years after their spring 1989 Rome semester. Excited to see each other (and Super Dave), inspired by the photos of Rome on the walls, and invigorated by their conversation and shared memories, these three onetime Rome “sisters” conceived the idea of gathering several of their former classmates for a weekend reunion.
