Exciting News! Cardinal Farrell Hall will be open soon and plans for our new auditorium
are already on the table. Unfortunately, this means the demise of our beloved Carpenter
Hall with all of its “eccentricities’”. Let’s celebrate the historic place Carpenter
has in our hearts and the University with our very own Carpenter Hall Wake – “Let
Us Partake….before it falls down”.
Carpenter Hall is unique on campus – being the first and original building – located
near the site of the old John Carpenter barns. Within its lifetime, it has hosted
all departments, academic and administrative. At one time, all classes were held within
its walls, and it has been the location for nurturing thousands of student minds over
the past 61 years.
It is fitting for us to celebrate this important milestone in the history of the University
of Dallas! In order to do so, we are having an art installation extravaganza in the
form of a wake for the building.
This is an open call for University departments, clubs, students, and alumni to contribute to the festivities. This is your chance to strut
your creativity and show how you will remember our beloved building! Write an ode,
compose a tune, paint a mural on the walls, dance an Irish jig, or give your own eulogy
to the departing…all expressions welcomed! Now is the time to plan and create!
All ideas are welcomed, but we ask to keep them within the theme and spirit of celebrating
the history of UD. We will be holding an information session to field questions, tell
you more about the event, give guidelines for submissions, and bounce around ideas
on September 12 at 5:00 p.m. in the Art History Classroom 112 (location changed 8-29-17).
In the meantime, We will be posting updates and information about the event here on
The exhibition of our collective history and art will be in Carpenter Hall during
the last week of January and We will have a grand celebration event the evening of
February 2nd - open to all students and alumni. Let’s make this a night to remember!
We will have a stage outside the hall for our event, but also we will be able to walk
through the hall for exhibits.
Submit your ideas of how you, your students or department wishes to contribute. A committee
will review ideas and coordinate the event. The AV department is ready to consult
and help, as well.
Are you interested in being involved but don’t know how? There will be plenty of opportunity
to support and volunteer with this event so please register your interest in being involved and we will partner you with great projects that
you can help bring to life. This event is all about collaboration and doing things
