Women's History Month Art Contest

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Cowan-Blakely Memorial Library is sponsoring an art contest on the theme of female artists working in the arts.  This will be a juried exhibition, with a library webpage that will feature all submissions and an exhibition that will feature the prize winners.

Criteria for submissions

  • Any female student at UD may submit an artwork in any medium 
  • Only one submission per entry is permitted
  • Participants should submit one work with title and date (no artist listed; submissions should be anonymous)
  • Format: .jpg at 300 DPI, 4”x6”.
  • All artwork should be dated no earlier than 2020.

Time frame

  • Submissions: Due by March 29
  • Judging: March 30
  • Winners announcement March 31, exhibition April 12 - 23

*Winners will need to drop off artwork to the library by April 16, and pick up on April 23.*

Selection criteria

Judges (3) will utilize the following criteria to select 2 winners:

  • Technical proficiency in the chosen medium
  • Quality of professional presentation
  • Clarity and development of concept and artistic theme
  • Unity of material, process, and concept
  • Demonstration of compositional elements and principles of design

 *Priority will be given to artworks that relate to the theme of women in the arts/women’s history*


Cash prizes will be awarded. 

1st Place: $100

2nd Place: $50

*Winning artworks and any honorable mentions will be displayed in the library and the library's webpage*
