No more late fines!
The Cowan - Blakley Memorial Library is pleased to announce that we are no longer
charging late fines! We think that access to material is more important than restricting that access due to fines. We want you to use the
material when you need it, and then return it when it's due.
If you currently have late fines on your account, please stop by the circulation desk at your convenience, and we'll be happy to waive those for you. (Fines for lost books, reserve materials, and interlibrary loan charges won't be waived.)
Some items in the library will still accrue fines. These include any reserve materials (including the permanent reserve materials on Dante and Milton), books in the McNaughton collection, audio/visual materials, and interlibrary loan items.
In the past, materials more than 90 days overdue would be marked as lost. Just to make sure our materials are returned, we'll now mark your books as lost after 30 days. You can bring them back, no questions asked, and the lost book charges will be removed from your account.
We will not refund any late fines previously paid. This new policy went into effect August 27, 2019. Anything paid before that date can't be refunded.
If you are currently on a payment plan for overdue charges, please see the circulation desk to cancel any outstanding balance.
If you have any questions about this new policy, please contact the circulation desk at 972-721-5329 or circulation@udallas.edu.
