60 Spanish-Speaking Catechists Complete Innovative Program in Pastoral Theology in the Diocese of Atlanta

January 9, 2016 marked an important day for sixty Spanish-speaking catechists from the Diocese of Atlanta. After three years of online course work in Scripture and church history, youth and young adult ministry, liturgy, sacraments, prayer and spirituality, graduates are both equipped and inspired to continue and advance their work in pastoral ministry. 

At the graduation ceremony, Bishop Luis R. Zarama sent forth the Spanish-speaking church leaders to catechize and evangelize the faithful from Gainesville to Jonesboro and fortify Hispanic ministries across the archdiocese.

Charles T. Uhl, who worked in UD's IT Department, sent four of his five children to UD and to Rome. When their father passed away, the Uhl children, along with their mother, Nancy, set up a scholarship fund in his name to enable more students to be able to afford Rome each semester.

They came here so that someday, they can go back with even more to offer. Sana Kandalan, MA '19, and Anmar Oghanna, MBA '19, a wife and husband, both received scholarships to pursue graduate education at UD; they hope to use their degrees and experiences here to better serve their community back home in Erbil.
