Magazine Features School of Ministrys Diaconate Formation Program

The University of Dallas School of Ministry Diaconate Formation Program was featured in the May 2012 issue of the Diocese of Shreveports Catholic Connection magazine. The school provides the academic component of deacon formation for not only the Catholic Diocese of Dallas, but for dioceses in Tyler and Shreveport, La., as well.

According to Fr. Pat Madden, adjunct instructor in the School of Ministry and director of the Greco Institute in Shreveport, Through these classes, we hope to provide the tools that will enable students to continue their studies of scripture, theology and pastoral practice that will enable them to be life-long learners.

The current formation is many times better than the first program and several times better than the last formation, said Deacon Clary Nash, director of the Permanent Diaconate and the Permanent Deacon Formation Program for the diocese. The difference is academic standards of the University of Dallas and the caliber of instructors with diaconate training experience.

Sixteen candidates, who will be eligible for ordination in the spring of 2014, are in the Diocese of Shreveports formation program.
