UD Partners with PAADS to Offer Leadership Training to Athlete Development Specialists

PAADS Academy

The Professional Association of Athlete Development Specialists (PAADS) and the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business will launch the first PAADS Leadership Academy April 28, 2015. The new program will provide athlete development specialists with the opportunity to enhance their skills in areas critical to their success and to the success of their athletes and organizations.

The PAADS Leadership Academy will commence with classroom instruction in New York City April 28-29, continue with online lessons and group projects involving the practical application of athlete development programs, and culminate with the presentation of the projects at the 2016 PAADS Athlete Development Summit. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive an Executive Certificate as an Athlete Development Specialist.

The program is being led by University of Dallas faculty members who have extensive experience in training professionals to enhance individual performance and their contribution to the success of their organizations. The hands-on, experiential methods they apply are designed to further the skills of athlete development specialists in educating and mentoring athletes; communicating with athletes, their support teams and sports executives; managing crisis situations; enhancing athlete career fulfillment; and becoming a recognized leader and contributor in the field of athlete development.

We are very excited to partner with PAADS to form their inaugural Leadership Academy, said Scott Wysong, associate professor in the Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business at the University of Dallas. Unlike many other industries, sports is changing so rapidly and becoming so transparent with its media coverage that athlete development specialists need the skills taught in the PAADS Leadership Academy to work with athletes today and in the future.

Enrollment in the PAADS Leadership Academy is limited to 30 participants. Participation is open to professionals who work in athlete development or a comparable field.

Those interested in participating in the Leadership Academy should contact Tom Livengood, PAADS education committee chair, at tlivengood@wtatennis.com or (757) 729-9723.
