The weather is turning and Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Thanksgiving Break officially begins with your student's last class on Tuesday, November 24, and goes through Sunday, November 30. Residents not going home for this holiday may stay in their campus housing; however, there is no food service after lunch on Tuesday until dinner on Sunday.

Registration for spring classes began on Monday, November 9, and housing registration for the spring also began on November 9. Your Crusader has received emails pertaining to both of these registration processes. All student accounts must be current to register. A current student account is one that is paid in full or only has the November 2015 payment outstanding on the payment plan. Spring 2016 statements will be uploaded to Cashnet and mailed out during the first weeks of December. Spring Rome student payment arrangements are due December 16, and all other undergraduates have a payment arrangement due date of January 6, 2016.

Hopefully your student was able to report successful progress after midterms. If your student seems to be struggling, you may recommend that he or she visit the Academic Success Office, meet with the professor or seek tutoring.

The end of the semester is fast approaching, which means finals are just around the corner. You can order a care package through Student Foundations to help you student make it through final exams. For information on ordering a Final Exam Gift Package, please contact Charlie Archer or the Student Activities and Leadership Center.

Also during this time of year, the senior class is attempting to pull together funds to give a senior gift as part of their legacy.  If you are willing and able to help, please contact Joe Dougherty.  Any and all assistance is appreciated.

The UD Ministry Conference was a grand blessing for all.  If you would like to keep the conference going long past the weekend, you can order the recordings through St. Joseph Communications. You can also give feedback on how the conference went.  It is always appreciated and can be done through this link.  Mark your calendars for next year, it will take place September 29-October 1, 2016.

October Odyssey Days was a huge success! Despite the rainy weather, over 80 high school seniors and their families visited, sat in on classes, toured campus and met with faculty and students. Because Odyssey Days 's the best way for students to experience life as a UD student, we are hosting a second Odyssey Days November 20-21. Register online at here. If you know of any high school seniors who may be interested in a top-ranked Catholic liberal arts education, let them know about UD's Odyssey Days!

If you're not a senior or are unable to make Odyssey Days, we encourage ALL high school students to check out UD by scheduling a personalized visit to campus.

If you know any students applying to the University of  Dallas, they qualify for an application fee waiver through you, since you are a parent of a current. The online form can be completed by either party. Feel free to contact the Office of Admission with questions at 972-721-5266 or crusader@udallas.edu.

The season of giving is just around the corner and through a new partnership which Amazon offers to libraries in the United States, a portion of any purchase—books, music, apparel, electronics, etc.—made from the online retail giant through this link will go to the university's library.  "All you have to do is click the link and then make your purchase," said Cherie Hohertz, access services librarian. "That's all there is to it.” The library will receive between 1-3% cash back of all purchases, depending on the items purchased. “It certainly doesn't sound like much, but it will add up!” said Cherie. “We're already seeing results!”  Please feel free to share the link with others.

Scholarships Available for Biology Majors

The Biology Department offers three scholarships; the Sister Clo. Scholarship; Drs. Leslie & Edward Baptista Scholarship; and the Dr. Frank Doe Scholarship. All of the scholarship applications are due by February 2, 2016. Students have to be Pre-Med or Bio or Biochem majors in order to apply. If students have any questions, they can stop by the Biology Dept. and see Brenda Leary.

 

 

Our Health Center is Expanding

A message from Dr. Dekat:
We are happy to announce the addition of a new physician in the Student Health Center which will allow additional hours for patient care. It was a very hard decision, but I've decided to expand my teaching role as Medical Director and Assistant Professor at the UT Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Physician Assistant Studies. I will stay on in a part time administrative role of Student Health Services, helping out in the clinic as needed and continuing as Team Physician. We have the opportunity to increase revenue for the University by billing insurance for care administered by our Athletic Trainers, and I will be actively involved in that endeavor. 

Over the years, the clinic volume has increased to 15-20 patients each afternoon, which means that the clinic needs to be open in the morning as well as the afternoon. We are fortunate to have found Dr. Lora Rodriguez, a 1985 alum of UD, to take over as the full - time physician for Student Health Services. 

As with me, she is a Pediatrician/Adolescent Medicine physician. Thus, because of that and the fact that the clinic is so busy with students, the clinic can only provide medical care for students, not employees. However, we will continue to provide vaccination services for employees.  
 
We will post the change in clinic hours soon.

Student Account Services Update

Please check student account to make sure there is a zero balance and all holds have been cleared for the Fall 2015 semester.  Student Schedule/Invoices for Spring 2016 will be mailed and uploaded to Cashnet the week of November 30 – December 4, 2015. Once you receive the Student Schedule/Invoice for Spring 2016, you may start enrolling in 5 or 4 Installment Payment Plan on December 1, 2015. The first payment for the 5 Installment Payment Plan will be due on December 15, 2015 and the first payment for the 4 Installment Payment Plan will be due on January 15, 2016. Payment Arrangement due date for Spring 2016 are as follows:

  • Spring 2016 Rome students – December 16, 2015
  • Spring 2016 Irving students – January 6, 2016

Spring 2016 Rome Clearance Deadline
Spring 2016 Rome applicants will need to be clear with all offices on campus by December 16 in order to avoid a $500 late fine. Clearance includes the following:

  • Business Office Clearance - The Rome Semester must be paid in full or a payment plan must be set up.
  • Library Clearance - All library fines must be taken care of with the library.
  • Rome Office Clearance - All academic and medical documents must be submitted along with copies of prescription receipts for a four month supply of medication and doctor clearance forms.

2016 – 2017 Rome Application Process
Applications for the 2016-2017 Rome semesters will be available in February and due March 2. For an application to be counted as on time and complete it must include a copy of a passport valid through September 2017.
