Art & Architecture Site Visit to the Roman Forum and Colosseum

For the Forum and Colosseum day, the Fall Class of 2017 toured some of the most famous landmarks of Rome and heard lectures on their architectural characteristics and significance. In the Roman Forum, the winner of the Marc Anthony speech competition performed the famous Shakespearean monologue from Julius Caesar at the very site of his murder by Brutus and Cassius. At the Colosseum, students heard from Dr. Elizabeth Robinson a lecture detailing the cultural aspects of the infamous Roman games. After the lectures, students were free to continue exploring the city or come back to campus via bus. 



First Day in Rome: January 17th, 2016

Our Spring 2016 Romers arrived early in the morning on January 16th and were greeted in Fiumicino Airport by Resident Coordinators Joe Hrbacek and Mike Pitstick, Dr. Peter Hatlie, and two Student Assistants. The students were shuttled by bus to campus and arrived jet-lagged but ecstatic at the first sight of their new home, Due Santi! The students settled in, explored the campus grounds (including a vineyard, pool, pergola, and soccer field!) and began orientation which included meeting their new professors
