Rome Forno Dinner

Rome Forno Dinner

FornoOne of the many amenities of the Due Santi is the forno, an outdoor wood oven and grill for the use of students, faculty, and staff. Painted a bright yellow, shaded by umbrella pines, and right next to the bocce court, the forno is a great location for students to share a meal and enjoy each other’s company.

To use the forno, students simply need to submit a request form 48 hours in advance. The forno includes an enclosed kitchen space complete with refrigerator, stove, sink, grill tools, plates, and utensils. Students can easily purchase groceries for pizza or a grilled meal from the grocery store within walking distance from campus. Near the forno is a wood shed with plenty of fire kindling -- primarily pruned or culled grape plants from the vineyard and olive wood.

The forno is in constant use already, with some students going so far as to make their own pizza dough and tomato sauce from scratch. Oftentimes, a forno dinner prepared by the student affairs staff is the grand prize for various events. This past week, the winners of the orientation week Rome Scavenger hunt received a pizza dinner, complete with wine and Italian appetizers such as bruschetta and various cheeses.
