Study of the adaptive significance of behavior includes analysis of behavioral mechanisms (genetics, neurobiology) and development (instinct, learning) and focuses on categories of behavior such as foraging, mating, sociality, territoriality and parental care. A wide range of behavioral examples, from microorganisms to humans, are used (Psychology). Prerequisite: Biology 1311, 1312.
