Within the Interdisciplinary Studies major, seven areas of emphasis are offered. The areas of emphasis correspond with certification frameworks in the State of Texas. If you are interested in obtaining certification for teaching in Secondary Schools, you must major in your subject area. This is different from the Interdisciplinary Studies Major.
UD Core courses are taken Freshman and Sophomore year.
EDU courses are taken Junior and Senior year. Only EDU 3305 and EDU 3327 may be taken the sophomore year without permission of the instructor.
Directed Teaching (Student Teaching) is a requirement for Texas state certification but is not a requirement of the Interdisciplinary Studies Major. This means that a student can graduate with the Interdisciplinary Studies Major without doing student teaching. Also, Directed Teaching can be completed as a post baccalaureate student.
