Printmaking, MA

The University of Dallas offers a practical and conceptual introduction to contemporary printmaking as a mode of artistic expression and a guided development of a student's ability toward a personal expression. Studio facilities enable students to make intaglios, lithographs, relief prints and screen prints, and to learn photographic printmaking processes and hand paper-making.

Printmaking, MA

Printmaking students work with all art faculty members (ceramics, sculpture, painting, and art history) through seminars and courses, independent studies, one-on-one critiques, and group evaluations. A full-tuition scholarship is awarded to each student accepted into the program, and there are graduate assistantships available. It is a full-time, residential program.

Space & Equipment

Printmaking graduate studios are semi-private with easy access to the equipment in the printmaking area, and the studios in sculpture, ceramics, and painting. Students have 24-hour access to the studio, including in the summer. The studio is equipped for all forms of traditional printmaking, including intaglio (etching, engraving, and drypoint), lithography, silkscreen, relief (woodblock and linocut), as well as hand papermaking, digital and photo processes.

The graduate experience is further augmented by visiting artists and scholars, providing perspective and connection to the contemporary printmaking community. There are opportunities to create editions with visiting artists through our Matrix Editions program.

Prospective students will be applying to the MA/MFA program. The evaluation for a successful MA occurs at the conclusion of the third semester (1.5 years). If the MA is awarded, the faculty then determines eligibility for continuing on to the MFA and the student has the opportunity to accept this offer. The MFA portion of the program requires another three semesters (1.5 years). As part of the MFA thesis exhibition, candidates will seek their own gallery venue in the DFW metroplex.
