President Sanford

President Jonathan J. Sanford

Dr. Sanford, a tenured professor in the Philosophy Department, graduated summa cum laude from Xavier University (Ohio) with a degree in classical languages and philosophy in 1997. Dr. Sanford received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Buffalo, State University of New York in 2001 and a postdoctoral fellowship from Fordham University in 2001-2002. An active scholar, Dr. Sanford has published widely on philosophical figures and topics, especially in foundational questions of moral philosophy. 

Dr. Susan Hanssen

Dr. Susan Hanssen

Dr. Susan Hanssen is associate professor of history at the University of Dallas, where she teaches American history on the Texas campus and the history of Western Civilization on the Rome campus. A beloved teacher and longtime guide to UD students abroad, she brings the places, texts and questions of Western civilization to life through lectures and conversations rooted in the university’s Catholic intellectual tradition. She earned her PhD in British and American history from Rice University.

Father Thomas Esposito

Fr. Thomas Esposito, OCist

Fr. Thomas Esposito, O.Cist., BA ’05, is associate professor of theology at the University of Dallas and a monk of the Cistercian Abbey of Our Lady of Dallas. He earned his doctorate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and teaches courses on Sacred Scripture, the New Testament, and the early Church. A beloved teacher and spiritual mentor, he will provide spiritual leadership throughout the pilgrimage through daily Mass, prayer, and reflections on the biblical and Christian significance of the sites we visit.
