Master of Divinity, MDIV

Program Description

The Master of Divinity degree is the standard degree offered by Catholic seminaries and universities for the formation of candidates for ordination to the Roman Catholic priesthood; it is intended at the University of Dallas principally for the formation of the seminarians of Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Dallas.

Degree Requirements

  • 120 Credit Hours 
    • 21 credits - Sacred Scripture
    • 12 credits - Historical Theology
    • 12 credits- Moral Theology
    • 27 credits - Practical Theology
    • 12 credits - Practicum
    • 36 credits - Other Theology Electives
  • Minimum GPA (cumulative) 3.00
  • Proficiency in modern language besides English for appropriate pastoral use, through completion of academic coursework, participation in another language program, or demonstrated proficiency by examination
  • Formation portfolio
  • Oral exam demonstrating proficiency and integration in areas of human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral formation

Admission Requirements

  • Completed application form
  • Undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college/university or the equivalent
  • Transcripts (including final semester with degree posted) submitted directly from issuing institution
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.50 on 4.00 scale
  • 9 credit hours of undergraduate theology or philosophy
  • 2 letters of recommendation — 1 from academic/professional source, 1 from personal source
  • Statement of support from faith community
  • If seeking to enter M.Div. program in partial fulfillment of requirements for priestly ordination in Roman Catholic Church, also must have met Norms for Admission of Candidates laid out in Program for Priestly Formation
