These scholarships are named Clare Boothe Luce (CBL) Scholarships and students receiving these scholarships will be named CBL Scholars. The University of Dallas has offered an additional award to supplement the Henry Luce Foundation grant to provide ten CBL Scholarships so that two awards can be given each of the academic years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 and three in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.
The CBL Scholarships show female students in a tangible way that their dedication to these areas of study is important and will give them the confidence to continue their studies in graduate school. The students who receive one-year full-tuition CBL Scholarships must meet established merit criteria and are encouraged to commit to service to provide further support to female students in areas of study underrepresented by women while they are still students at the University of Dallas and as their careers are established.
In addition to the scholarships, the University will establish a Clare Boothe Luce Speaker Series, Clare Boothe Luce Discussion Panels for Undecided Students, and a support organization for women in the sciences. These initiatives are designed to attract women into physical science, engineering, and mathematical areas and to support them once there.
Only students who have received an invitation are eligible to apply to become a UD CBL Scholar and to receive a CBL Scholarship. Please contact Dr. Hicks (hicks@udallas.edu) if you think you should have received an invitation and did not. Invitations will be sent to all eligible students by January 31, 2018.
Female student majoring in computer science, mathematics, physics, or engineering who will be either a junior or a senior during the 2016-2017 academic year
All applications are due to Dr. Sally Hicks in the Physics Department by March 6, 2018. The application should be submitted via email ( hicks@udallas.edu and emroman@udallas.edu) in a single pdf file.
