IRVING, Texas (Oct. 27, 2023) — In response to changes to federal student aid standards, the University of Dallas has established a new grant to help families of freshmen defray the cost of college.

All first-year students admitted to the University of Dallas for the fall of 2024 will be eligible to receive a $5,000 grant per year from the university if they have a sibling in college, regardless of family income or where the sibling attends college.

The new grant follows changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that alter its method for calculating families’ estimated contributions toward their children’s college education through the FAFSA. The federal government’s aid calculation has altered how the number of siblings in college impacts financial need, which could significantly raise the out-of-pocket cost for many families with multiple children in college.

“Many of the families whose children are applying to UD will be adversely impacted by the federal government’s new FAFSA rules,” said President Jonathan J. Sanford, PhD. “With this grant, our hope is to make a UD education more affordable for families with multiple children in college so they can benefit from the unique formation of our nationally ranked Core Curriculum, our Rome Program and our strong faith community.”
