Making UDallas’ excellence visible
The University of Dallas forms students of unusual depth, dedication, and intellectual
promise. Yet without structured fellowship preparation, that excellence too often
remains unseen where academic distinction is most publicly recognized.
Recognition Matters
National fellowships such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, Goldwater and Truman serve across higher education as clear markers of academic excellence, faculty mentorship and institutional credibility. They demonstrate UDallas’ strengths to the wider world and provide donors, alumni and prospective families with concrete evidence of the university’s rigor and formation.
Even without a formal structure, UDallas has already produced remarkable results
- 38 Fulbright awards
- 7 Goldwater Scholarships
- 5 NSF Graduate Research Fellowships
- a Truman Scholar and a Marshall finalist.
What these results show is clear: the talent is here.
What the university needs now is the structure to make that success visible, repeatable and sustainable.
Prestigious Fellowships & Scholarships Initiative
The Prestigious Fellowships & Scholarships initiative is a lean, faculty-led program built around a structured four-year model that provides students with sustained preparation and support. It would:
- identify high-potential students early
- provide intentional mentorship across the undergraduate years
- coordinate faculty advising and nomination processes
- strengthen students’ writing and interview preparation
- guide students through nationally competitive fellowship applications
By creating a clear and sustained structure as a recognized institutional function, this initiative would turn UDallas’ academic strength into visible, externally recognized outcomes. It would serve as a flagship formation initiative rooted in the university’s mission, forming Catholic leaders for scholarship, public service and cultural engagement.
It is a proportionate, mission-aligned investment that would bring continuity, credibility and lasting success.

The Pursuit of Wisdom
With one faculty director continuing to teach two courses each semester, the program would support 5–12 students per class year and grow into a sustained pipeline of approximately 25–48 students across four undergraduate years.
The annual investment provides for the essential structure needed to support strong fellowship outcomes, including:
- a faculty director for year-round advising, leadership, and coordination
- a small faculty mentor cohort of approximately five mentors
- administrative support to keep the program efficient and consistent
- student formation and preparation through workshops, mock interviews and cohort-based programming
- program materials, training and events that strengthen student readiness and build momentum
Together, these elements create the minimum structure needed to make fellowship success not occasional, but sustainable.
*Endowed support is also welcome to help secure the program’s long-term stability and growth. Such support could one day provide permanent leadership, stable funding and the foundation for an endowed Center for Public Leadership connecting fellowships, research, postgraduate formation and public programming.
