French, BA

The French Program equips students with advanced-level proficiency in French language and culture, enabling them to live and work in France upon graduation. Many of our graduates go on to teach English language in French public schools for a year through the French government's TAPIF program. After that, our students enjoy a wide range of careers including law, medicine, and business.

A prominent feature of our program has been our French play productions, in which all our French majors and concentrators are encouraged to take part. Since the 1960s, we have been putting on plays ranging in date from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. As a way of improving your spoken French (as well as getting under the skin of a text) there are few more useful or more agreeable endeavors.

If you are a high school student thinking of attending UD, you should consider applying for a French Departmental Scholarship. For scholarship information, click here.

Please check out our site and contact Assistant Professor of French Jason Lewallen at jlewallen@udallas.edu if you have any questions.
