Sacred Music, Concentration

The Sacred Music Concentration includes a two-semester supervised Sacred Music Practicum at the Church of the Incarnation, planned with the student, Campus Ministry and the Music Department Director.

 

Requirements

Piano Proficiency: 2 credits OR Skills assessment as determined by Director

 Required Courses: 12 credits 

  • MUS 3340  Survey of Sacred Music  (Also counts for FACR “Fine Arts Core Requirement” in Core Curriculum) 
  • MUS 3322 Advanced Music Theory (Prerequisite: MUS 1320 Music Theory I OR Director Permission) 
  • MUS 3333 History and Theory of Gregorian Chant (Also counts for FACR “Fine Arts Core Requirement” in Core Curriculum) 
  • MUS 1320 Music Theory I OR MUS 1311 Music of the Western World I OR MUS 1312 Music of the Western World II  OR MUS 3335 History of Opera

Applied Music: 6 credits 

  • MUS 1108 Instrumental practicum/Organ (2 semesters)
  • MUS 1113 UD Chorale (2 semesters)
  • MUS 1116 Applied Voice (2 semesters)
