Yellow Ribbon Program

Yellow Ribbon Program

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a partnership between University of Dallas and Department of Veteran Affairs to supplement the tuition benefits of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, also known as Chapter 33. The Yellow Ribbon Program allows institutions of higher learning to enter into a voluntary agreement with the VA to contribute funds to a veteran's unmet tuition and fee charges when they exceed the amount payable under Chapter 33. The program allows institutions to contribute an amount up to 50 percent of a veteran's unmet costs where the VA will match the amount.

To be eligible for a Yellow Ribbon Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a veteran and eligible for 100% of benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®
  • Have remaining entitlement under the Post-9/11 Bill
  • You must not be on active duty or a spouse transferee of an active duty member
  • Be an UD student in good academic standing
  • Must remain continuously enrolled (per each program's policy)
  • Be in a VA approved degree program
  • Be registered for classes that do apply to your degree program
  • Successfully complete all registered classes - you may be required to repay UD and the VA for the tuition for any class you fail or drop after the term begins

We strongly encourage students wishing to use Yellow Ribbon funds to apply for VA benefits well before the semester begins, as it may take 4-6 weeks for the VA to process your application. We are not responsible for processing or mail delays. We cannot approve you for Yellow Ribbon funds without your eligibility paperwork from the VA. If you choose to register for classes prior to finalizing your paperwork, you may personally be responsible for tuition balances and any late fees on your account.

To apply for a Yellow Ribbon Scholarship, you must:

  • Complete the Form 911 Yellow Ribbon Program Application, which is an online form
  • If this is your first time using Post-9/11 Benefits at UD, you must attach your VA Letter of Eligibility that verifies you are 100% eligible for veteran benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill
  • If you have separated from Active Duty Service (or Active Orders) since your last certification, you must attach a copy of your DD-214
