Panelists
Mary Dickinson, Assoc. AIA, RID, LEED AP BD+C- Regional Sustainable Design Leader for the Texas practice of Perkins+Will.
Mary works with many project teams to validate projects and practices are sustainable and follow set protocol and procedures. She participates in research and creates tools that are shared across the firm. Fueled by her passion in refining the role and impact of the built environment on human and ecological health, Mary helps to lead the firm wide Sustainable Design Initiative on material health. Mary also participates in the local design community as a member of the USGBC North Texas Board of Directors and AIA Dallas’ Committee on the Environment, where she was Chair in 2013 and continues as Co-Chairman of the AIA+2030 Series.
Zaida Basora, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, Assistant Director of Facility Architecture and Engineering for the Public Works Department, City of Dallas
Ziada is a nationally recognized leader in regional and national green building standards and sustainability. Over the past 20 years, she has held several positions with the City of Dallas including Purchasing Agent and Chief Building Official. Currently, she oversees design and construction and energy management in over 800 city-owned facilities. Zaida began implementation of the Dallas green building code in 2008; and updates and adoption of the green construction code in 2012. Her work championing green building green building codes in Dallas has been recognized with a BOAT (Building Officials Association of Texas) 2008 award of excellence, a 2009 CLIDE (Celebrating Leadership in Development Excellence) Award in public policy, and two 2014 CoreNet Global Sustainability Leadership Awards, locally and nationally. She was recognized by Ford Motor Company as Mujer Legendaria in March of 2014 and received the President's Pillar Award in 2014 for her leadership in sustainability in Dallas. Zaida serves on the Sustainability Committee of Texas Society of Architects and is the 2016 President for AIA Dallas. Zaida holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Puerto Rico. She was elected to the AIA College of Fellows in January 2012 .
